Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started
How does WalkFirst work?

WalkFirst blocks the apps you choose until you reach your daily step goal. The more you walk, the more screen time you earn:

50% of goal = 10 minutes unlocked
75% of goal = 15 minutes unlocked
100% of goal = Unlimited access for the day

Step data comes from Apple Health, so just carry your iPhone or wear an Apple Watch and your steps count automatically.

How do I set up WalkFirst?

1. Open WalkFirst and complete the onboarding

2. Grant Apple Health permission (to read your steps)

3. Grant Screen Time permission (to block apps)

4. Set your daily step goal

5. Choose which apps to block

That's it! WalkFirst will start tracking your steps and managing your app access automatically.

Which apps can I block?

You can block any app installed on your iPhone. Most users block social media apps like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter/X, and games. You choose exactly which apps to block in the Apps tab.

Step Tracking
My steps aren't updating. What should I do?

Try these steps:

1. Open the Health app and check if steps are being recorded

2. Go to Settings > Privacy > Health > WalkFirst and make sure step data is enabled

3. Make sure Background App Refresh is enabled for WalkFirst in Settings

4. Restart the WalkFirst app

If steps still aren't updating, try restarting your iPhone and opening WalkFirst again.

Does WalkFirst work with Apple Watch?

Yes! WalkFirst reads step data from Apple Health, which automatically includes steps tracked by your Apple Watch. There's no separate Apple Watch app needed - as long as your Apple Watch syncs with the Health app, WalkFirst will count those steps.

Can I change my daily step goal?

Yes! Go to Profile > Goals > Daily Steps Goal and adjust your target. You can change it anytime. We recommend starting with a manageable goal and increasing it gradually.

App Blocking
When do blocked apps reset?

Blocked apps reset every morning. Each day starts fresh - your step count resets and apps are blocked again until you start walking and earning screen time for the new day.

Can I set blocking for weekdays only?

Yes! Go to Profile > App Settings > Blocking Schedule and choose "Weekdays Only." This gives you freedom on weekends while keeping you disciplined during the work week.

What happens when my earned time runs out?

When your earned minutes run out, your selected apps will be blocked again. You can earn more time by continuing to walk toward your step goal. Once you reach 100% of your goal, you get unlimited access for the rest of the day.
