Summary: WalkFirst stores your health and personal data on your device. We use analytics to improve the app and a third-party service to manage subscriptions. We do not sell your data to anyone.

1. Introduction

WalkFirst ("we," "our," or "the app") is developed by Jobin Macwan. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use WalkFirst on iOS.

By using WalkFirst, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

During onboarding, you may provide:

Name - for personalization within the app
Age range - to tailor your experience
Activity level - to suggest appropriate step goals
Daily screen time estimate - to set baseline goals
Personal goals - such as health, fitness, or reducing screen time

This information is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

2.2 Health Data (Apple HealthKit)

With your permission, WalkFirst reads the following data from Apple HealthKit:

Daily step count
Calories burned
Walking distance

This health data is:

Read only from HealthKit (we never write to it)
Stored locally on your device for progress tracking
Never sent to our servers or any third party
Never used for advertising or marketing

2.3 Screen Time Data (Apple FamilyControls)

With your authorization, WalkFirst uses Apple's Screen Time API to manage app blocking. The apps you choose to block are processed entirely on your device using Apple's FamilyControls framework. We cannot see or access which specific apps you block.

2.4 Analytics Data

We use PostHog, a third-party analytics service, to understand how the app is used and to improve your experience. PostHog collects:

Screen views and navigation patterns
Button taps and feature usage
Onboarding progress
App version and build number
Device model and iOS version
Subscription status (free or pro)

Analytics data does not include your name, health data, step counts, or which apps you block. For more information, see PostHog's Privacy Policy.

2.5 Subscription Data

We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases. RevenueCat processes:

Purchase transactions (handled by Apple)
Subscription status and tier
Anonymous customer identifier

Payment information (credit card, Apple ID billing) is handled entirely by Apple and is never accessible to us. For more information, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Track your daily steps and calculate earned screen time
Block and unblock apps based on your step progress
Display your progress, streaks, and achievements
Send you motivational notifications and reminders (if enabled)
Process and manage your subscription
Improve the app based on anonymized usage patterns

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

We share limited data only with:

PostHog - anonymized app usage analytics
RevenueCat - subscription management
Apple - payment processing via App Store

We do not share your health data, personal information, or app blocking choices with any third party.

6. Notifications

With your permission, WalkFirst may send local notifications for:

Step goal milestones (50%, 75%, 90%, 100%)
Earned screen time alerts
Streak reminders
Daily motivational messages
Trial and subscription reminders

You can disable notifications at any time in your device Settings.

7. Data Retention

Your personal and health data is stored locally on your device for as long as you use the app. If you delete WalkFirst, all locally stored data is permanently removed.

Analytics data retained by PostHog is subject to their data retention policies. Subscription data retained by RevenueCat is subject to their retention policies.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your data - all personal data is visible within the app
Delete your data - uninstall the app to remove all local data
Revoke permissions - disable HealthKit or Screen Time access in iOS Settings at any time
Opt out of analytics - contact us to request analytics data deletion
Manage notifications - disable in iOS Settings

9. Children's Privacy

WalkFirst is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

10. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Most of your data never leaves your device. Data transmitted to third-party services (PostHog, RevenueCat) is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
